Karol G, the Colombian singer-songwriter, has been named Billboard’s 2024 Woman of the Year, joining the ranks of esteemed artists like Taylor Swift, SZA, and Lady Gaga. This recognition follows her historic win at the Grammy Awards, where she became the first woman to win in the Best Música Urbana category, signaling a shift in perceptions of reggaetón and Latin hip-hop. Karol G expressed a sense of responsibility as a woman in the music industry, particularly within the urban music genre.

Her album “Mañana Será Bonito” made waves in 2023, breaking streaming records and reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking the first time a Spanish-language release achieved this feat. Billboard’s Editorial Director, Hannah Karp, praised Karol G’s talent, noting her empowering lyrics and unwavering confidence as qualities that have inspired a global movement among women.

The Billboard Women in Music Awards, scheduled for March 6, will honor Karol G alongside other notable artists such as Ice Spice, NewJeans, Victoria Monét, Maren Morris, Kylie Minogue, and Young Miko. The event will take place at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles and will be hosted by actor and producer Tracee Ellis Ross.
