Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has been sentenced to five years in prison for attempted murder and other charges related to a 2022 incident. Velasquez pursued and shot at Harry Goularte—who is accused of molesting his 4-year-old son—during an 11-mile high-speed chase, injuring Goularte’s stepfather.

Initially facing up to 30 years, Velasquez pleaded no contest and received credit for time served, having spent nearly a year in jail and two years on house arrest. Judge Arthur Bocanegra, emotional during sentencing, acknowledged Velasquez’s remorse, with the fighter admitting he handled things the wrong way.

Goularte is set to face trial in June for charges of lewd acts with a minor. Meanwhile, Velasquez’s family has filed a civil lawsuit against Goularte’s family and their daycare business.

A two-time UFC champion known for his dominant career, Velasquez had also pursued professional wrestling and was set to manage a Global Fight League team in 2025, a role now unlikely due to his incarceration.
