Tesla Officially Launches in Uruguay as EV Giant Expands Across Latin America

Tesla has officially entered Uruguay, marking another milestone in the company’s expansion across Latin America.

The electric vehicle manufacturer celebrated its launch with an event in Montevideo and has officially opened sales, deliveries, service and Supercharger operations in the country. Uruguay becomes Tesla’s third direct-sales market in South America, joining Chile and Colombia.

Uruguayan customers can now order the Model 3 and Model Y, with prices starting at US$32,990 for the Model 3 and US$36,490 for the Model Y. Initial deliveries are expected later this year.

While Uruguay is one of South America’s smallest countries, it has quietly become one of the region’s leaders in electric vehicle adoption. EVs accounted for nearly 30% of new vehicle sales earlier this year, while the country’s electricity grid is powered almost entirely by renewable energy, making it an attractive market for Tesla.

The company is also expected to expand its Supercharger network across Uruguay over the next year, connecting Montevideo with popular destinations such as Punta del Este and the Argentine border.

Tesla has appointed Joaquín Lizarralde to oversee operations in both Argentina and Uruguay, signaling a regional strategy that treats the neighboring countries as a single market.

With Uruguay now onboard, Tesla continues to grow its presence across Latin America as demand for electric vehicles accelerates throughout the region. Brazil, the continent’s largest automotive market, remains one of the few major South American countries where Tesla has yet to launch direct vehicle sales.
