Mexico has officially taken over the 2026 Leagues Cup.
For the first time in the tournament’s modern era, all four semifinalists are Liga MX clubs after Mexican teams swept MLS opposition in the quarterfinals.
Toluca, Club León, Club América and Monterrey are the last four teams standing.
The quarterfinals were supposed to continue the tournament’s MLS vs. Liga MX rivalry.
Instead, Mexico went 4-for-4.
Monterrey eliminated Chicago Fire, León knocked out Real Salt Lake, Toluca defeated Austin FC and América completed the sweep by eliminating Columbus Crew.
The results guarantee that a Mexican club will win the 2026 Leagues Cup after MLS clubs won the previous three editions.
The semifinals take place September 2, with Toluca facing León and América taking on Monterrey.
For a tournament built around the rivalry between MLS and Liga MX, Mexico couldn’t have made a bigger statement.
Four semifinalists. Four Liga MX clubs. Zero MLS teams remaining.
