Mexico has officially taken over the 2026 Leagues Cup.
For the first time in the tournament’s modern era, all four semifinalists are Liga MX clubs after Mexican teams swept MLS opposition in the quarterfinals.
Toluca, Club LeĂ³n, Club AmĂ©rica and Monterrey are the last four teams standing.
The quarterfinals were supposed to continue the tournament’s MLS vs. Liga MX rivalry.
Instead, Mexico went 4-for-4.
Monterrey eliminated Chicago Fire, LeĂ³n knocked out Real Salt Lake, Toluca defeated Austin FC and AmĂ©rica completed the sweep by eliminating Columbus Crew.
The results guarantee that a Mexican club will win the 2026 Leagues Cup after MLS clubs won the previous three editions.
The semifinals take place September 2, with Toluca facing LeĂ³n and AmĂ©rica taking on Monterrey.
For a tournament built around the rivalry between MLS and Liga MX, Mexico couldn’t have made a bigger statement.
