U.S. vs. Mexico Set for Epic Gold Cup Final Clash in Houston

The storied rivalry between the United States and Mexico adds another thrilling chapter this Sunday as both teams face off in the 2025 Gold Cup Final at NRG Stadium in Houston. It’s a showdown fueled by pride, passion, and a deep-rooted history in Concacaf competition.

While neither side had a perfect lead-up to the tournament—both suffering defeats to Switzerland, and the U.S. falling to Turkey in a pre-tournament friendly—they’ve each managed to find rhythm when it counted most.

The United States, under the leadership of Mauricio Pochettino, built momentum with commanding wins over Trinidad & Tobago (5-0), Saudi Arabia (1-0), and Haiti (2-1). A dramatic quarterfinal against Costa Rica saw them advance in sudden-death penalties after a 2-2 draw, followed by a narrow 2-1 semifinal win over Guatemala.

Mexico, meanwhile, shook off early nerves after a wild 3-2 opener against the Dominican Republic. They then blanked Suriname 2-0 and drew Costa Rica 0-0 before dispatching Saudi Arabia 2-0 in the quarterfinals. A lone goal from Raúl Jiménez was enough to seal their semifinal victory over Honduras.

Now, with both giants of the region colliding once again, the stage is set for what promises to be a fiery and unforgettable final. Can the U.S. ride their late-tournament form to lift the trophy, or will El Tri reclaim regional supremacy?

All eyes will be on Houston this Sunday (tonight) 7pm.
