Tourism Minister David Collado and former MLB star Alex Rodríguez have unveiled a US$1 billion+ investment in a new ultra-luxury tourism development at Playa Grande, located in the María Trinidad Sánchez province of the Dominican Republic.

Project Highlights:

  • Ultra-luxury hotels and real estate accommodations planned

  • Located in Playa Grande, already home to the Amanera resort and a Robert Trent Jones golf course

  • Backed by Discovery Land Company, known for elite, private residential communities

  • Aims to boost high-end tourism in Río San Juan and Cabrera

“This is a strong sign of investor confidence in the Dominican Republic’s economic and tourism climate,” said Minister Collado

Alex Rodríguez’s Role:

  • Rodríguez, who has Dominican roots, is co-leading the investment and development

  • Called the project “transformative,” with potential to attract global elites

  • Reinforces DR’s positioning as a world-class luxury destination

Why it matters:

This billion-dollar investment is part of a larger tourism strategy aimed at attracting wealthier travelers, increasing foreign investment, and creating new job opportunities in the northern coastal region.

Stay tuned as Playa Grande emerges as one of the Caribbean’s premier destinations for the ultra-wealthy.
