Scarlett Johansson’s long-standing box office crown has officially been taken — and the new queen of the all-time gross list is Zoe Saldana.

The Black Widow star previously held the record for highest-grossing actor of all time, but she’s now been surpassed by Saldana, thanks largely to her role in James Cameron’s Avatar franchise. According to Box Office Mojo, the newest instalment, “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” hit $1.23 billion worldwide on January 12, pushing Saldana’s total film gross to an estimated $16.8 billion across her career.

That new milestone edges past Johansson’s reported career total of $16.4 billion, reshuffling the top ranks in Hollywood’s biggest box office performers list. The top five is now packed with familiar Marvel heavyweights — including Samuel L. Jackson, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Pratt — but Saldana has taken the #1 spot.

Saldana’s filmography is basically a box office cheat code, including global franchises like Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, Star Trek, Avengers: Endgame, and even an early appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

While Avatar: Fire and Ash earned a nomination for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement at the 2026 Golden Globes, it lost out to Sinners (Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler) at the ceremony.

Saldana has been a Globes winner recently too — taking home a major acting prize at the 2025 Golden Globes, where she gave love to her Emilia Pérez co-stars Selena Gomez and Karla Sofía Gascón, highlighting how supportive the cast was despite awards season being a “competition.”

Off-screen, Saldana also keeps it family-first — she’s a mom of three with husband Marco Perego.

Bottom line: between Avatar and Marvel alone, Zoe Saldana has officially become one of the most commercially dominant stars in movie history — and now, the numbers prove it.
