At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz and Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel shone with their collaboration on Revolución Diamantina, winning three awards: Best Orchestral Performance, Best Classical Compendium, and Best Contemporary Classical Composition.

Ortiz, a prominent composer and educator born into a musical family, is known for blending traditional and contemporary elements in her work while addressing social and political themes. Revolución Diamantina draws inspiration from Mexico’s 2019 feminist “Glitter Revolution” against gender violence. The title references a symbolic protest involving pink glitter thrown at a police chief, highlighting women’s fight against institutional indifference.

Beyond her compositions, Ortiz is a professor at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and a member of El Colegio Nacional, reflecting her dedication to music education and cultural advocacy.
