Latin America is taking over the streets of downtown Toronto this weekend.
On Saturday, September 26, Toronto’s Latin Parade will bring music, dance, flags and culture through the heart of the city, with more than 20 Latin American delegations expected to participate.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. near Bloor Street West and St. George Street, before travelling east along Bloor toward Yonge Street and then south through downtown to Sankofa Square.
Expect to see communities representing countries from across Latin America celebrating their culture with traditional clothing, music, dancing and plenty of flags.
The parade is only the beginning.
Once it reaches Sankofa Square, the celebration continues with a free Hispanic Fiesta featuring live music, cultural performances, dancing, food and activities throughout the day.
The weekend celebration comes just ahead of Latin American Heritage Month in Canada, which officially begins in October.
For Toronto — home to one of Canada’s largest and fastest-growing Latin American communities — it’s another opportunity to bring the culture directly into the heart of the city.
Toronto Police says there will be rolling road closures along the parade route, so anyone heading downtown Saturday should give themselves some extra time.
