Toronto is giving movie nights a whole new meaning this October, transforming the former Downsview Airport runway into a massive outdoor cinema — and admission is completely free.
Known as Runway Reels, the event runs every Friday and Saturday until October 24 at YZD in North York. Visitors can watch movies from their vehicles in classic drive-in style or bring blankets and enjoy outdoor lounge seating beneath the stars.
The experience goes beyond movies, with live DJs, musical performances, entertainment and food before each screening. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., with films beginning at sunset.
Upcoming screenings include Shrek 2, Barbie, A Minecraft Movie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
The event is part of the ongoing transformation of the former Downsview Airport into a new destination for arts, entertainment and community gatherings.
Admission is free, but advance registration is required. Visitors can reserve tickets through Eventbrite.
