The air might still feel mild, but shorter days are here — and that means it’s almost time to turn back the clocks.
This year, Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, when Canadians will gain an extra hour of sleep as clocks roll back one hour.
The trade-off? Darker evenings and the return of those early sunsets that mark the long road to winter.
Interestingly, this year’s switch happens a day earlier than in 2023, and in 2026, the rollback will come even sooner — on November 1.
⏰ The Future of Daylight Saving in Canada
Daylight Saving Time has been around since 1908, but debate over its usefulness hasn’t faded.
Ontario passed legislation in 2020 to make DST permanent, but the change depends on Quebec and New York doing the same.
Now, there’s new momentum: Quebec launched a public consultation on the issue last fall, and in the U.S., former President Donald Trump renewed calls to make DST permanent earlier this year.
So, while Canadians will turn their clocks back once again this November, the days of changing time twice a year might finally be numbered.
