The Blue Jays Are Back: Toronto Stuns Seattle to Reach First World Series in over 30 Years

For the first time in more than three decades, the Toronto Blue Jays are heading back to the World Series — and they did it in dramatic fashion.

In a thrilling Game 7 comeback, the Jays defeated the Seattle Mariners 4–3 on Monday night, thanks to a clutch three-run homer from veteran slugger George Springer that turned the game — and the series — on its head.

Seattle had built an early 3–1 lead through a series of solo home runs, but Springer’s seventh-inning blast electrified Rogers Centre and gave Toronto the edge they needed to seal the win. From there, the bullpen held firm, and the Jays punched their ticket to baseball’s biggest stage for the first time since 1993.

“There’s probably not another person on planet Earth I’d want up there than George Springer and his October magic,” said manager John Schneider after the victory.

‘The Job’s Not Finished’

While the celebration was loud and proud, ALCS MVP Vladimir Guerrero Jr. quickly reminded fans and teammates what comes next.

“The job’s not finished. We’ve got four more to go,” Guerrero said, already focused on the upcoming World Series showdown against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the defending champions.

The win capped a remarkable turnaround for the Blue Jays, who dropped the first two games of the series before storming back to win four straight — a comeback that will be remembered as one of the greatest in team history.

A Team Built on Grit and Depth

Game 7 was a true test of Toronto’s pitching depth. Starter Shane Bieber went just under four innings before Schneider mixed and matched six pitchers — from Louis Varland to Kevin Gausman and Chris Bassitt — to keep Seattle off balance. Closer Jeff Hoffman then struck out the side in the ninth, slamming the door on the Mariners’ postseason dreams.

Many of the Jays celebrating on the field weren’t even born the last time Toronto reached the Fall Classic. For fans, the moment carries echoes of 1992 and 1993, when the team won back-to-back championships led by legends like Joe Carter and Roberto Alomar.

Heartbreak in Seattle, Hope in Toronto

For the Mariners, the loss was crushing. After 24 years without an ALCS appearance, Seattle’s dream run came to a halt just one step short of their first-ever World Series. Manager Dan Wilson praised his players for their effort, urging them to “hold their heads high” after a remarkable season.

Meanwhile, Toronto celebrates — but stays hungry. The Blue Jays now turn their attention to the World Series, where they’ll face the powerhouse Dodgers and chase a third championship banner.

As Springer put it before Game 7:

“This is what you play for. This is what you want.”

Now, the Jays — and all of Canada — get to play for it.
