Shamans in Peru Share Bold Predictions for the Year Ahead

A group of Andean shamans gathered by the sea in Lima’s Miraflores district to carry out their annual ritual predicting what the coming year may bring. Dressed in traditional ponchos and headdresses, the shamans performed a spiritual ceremony focused on global politics, international conflicts, and world leaders.

Among their most striking predictions was the claim that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro will be removed from office. One shaman said they envisioned U.S. President Donald Trump playing a role in that outcome. The group also predicted that major global conflicts—such as the war in Ukraine—will continue into the new year.

The shamans’ predictions come with a mixed track record. In the past, they incorrectly warned of an imminent nuclear war in the Middle East, but they accurately foresaw the death of former Peruvian president Alberto Fujimori, who passed away in September 2024.

Before the ceremony, the shamans prepared spiritually using traditional plant-based rituals believed to enhance foresight. On San Cristóbal Hill, they laid out offerings such as yellow flowers, coca leaves, swords, and blankets, dancing and playing ancestral instruments while praying for peace, wise leadership, and positive energy for the year ahead. They also warned of possible natural disasters, including earthquakes and extreme climate events, reinforcing their message that the future depends on the choices leaders make today.
