Lucas Paqueta, a West Ham player facing spot-fixing charges from the English Football Association (FA), will continue to play for Brazil while contesting the allegations. The charges accuse Paqueta of deliberately receiving yellow cards in Premier League matches to affect betting markets. Charged with misconduct on May 23, he could face a lengthy ban if found guilty.
Paqueta has publicly denied the charges and pledged to clear his name, with a formal response due by Monday, though he may request an extension. The Brazilian Football Confederation, aware of the allegations, has been in communication with the English FA. Confederation president Ednaldo Rodrigues Gomes confirmed that Paqueta will remain in Brazil’s squad for the Copa America starting June 20 and will be available for upcoming friendlies against Mexico and the United States.
