This is what determination looks like.
Araceli Cuevas, a senior at Gary Lighthouse College Prep Campus, has achieved something almost unheard of—acceptance into 126 colleges and over $9 million in scholarship offers.
Let that sink in.
With a perfect 4.0 GPA and ranking second in her class, Araceli didn’t just aim high—she went all in. Applying through platforms like Common App and focusing on schools with waived fees, she turned strategy and discipline into life-changing opportunities.
But behind the numbers is something bigger.
Coming from an underserved community, Araceli’s journey represents what’s possible when talent meets relentless work ethic. While many would have made excuses, she stayed focused—writing around 30 essays, managing deadlines, and pushing herself to see just how far she could go.
And it paid off.
For her family, the scholarship offers mean everything. With college costs often being a barrier, Araceli has created options—not just for herself, but for her future.
Now, she’s looking ahead.
She plans to study psychology and is currently leaning toward staying in Indiana, with decision day approaching. But no matter where she goes, one thing is clear:
She’s already made history.
And for a new generation of Latino students watching, she just raised the bar.
