Latin Music Finally Gets Its Own Juno Category

Big news for our community — The Juno Awards are officially adding a Latin Music Recording of the Year category for 2026.

For years, Latin music has been one of Canada’s fastest-growing genres, yet it remained the only top genre without its own category. That changes now. This new recognition will spotlight Latin talent across all genres and languages, giving our artists the stage they deserve on Canada’s biggest music platform.

As Ricardo Taco of Live Nation Canada put it, “This recognition not only highlights the growing impact of Latin music in Canada, but also gives our artists a powerful platform to share their stories, rhythms, and heritage with a wider audience.”

Here in Toronto — home to one of the country’s largest and most active Latino communities — the announcement hits especially close. You can bet that Toronto Latinos will continue to do what we can to elevate Latin voices and ensure our culture continues to grow across Canada.

The new category will debut at the 55th annual Juno Awards in Hamilton, March 2026.
