Karol G is stepping into a more complex phase of her career—one where global influence comes with difficult decisions.
In a new interview tied to her latest cover with Playboy, the Grammy-winning artist opened up about wanting to speak more openly on political issues, particularly immigration policies and ICE actions in the United States. But according to Karol G, that comes with real risks.

She revealed that people close to her often advise against speaking out, warning that doing so could have serious consequences—including the possibility of losing her visa. “You become bait,” she explained, pointing to how power dynamics can shift quickly when public figures take a stand.
Still, the artist made it clear she’s not backing away—she’s just being strategic.
Rather than making quick statements, Karol G says she wants to wait for the right moment, when her voice can create meaningful impact. “I have a huge stage,” she said, emphasizing her responsibility to use that platform in a way that truly represents and supports her community.
It’s a balance between protection and purpose. While she admitted even saying something as simple as “ICE Out” could spark backlash, she’s thinking bigger—questioning what kind of message would actually drive change.
Beyond the political conversation, the interview also marks a major cultural moment. Karol G becomes the face of a new era for Playboy, with the publication relaunching under new leadership. The cover, shot by photographer Gray Sorrenti, presents a more intimate and intentional take on beauty and sexuality—something Karol G says she embraced on her own terms.
The decision was also personal. Inspired by the women she saw growing up, she saw the opportunity as a moment to step into her own confidence and identity. Even fellow Colombian Sofía Vergara encouraged her to go for it—reminding her to have a clear reason behind the decision.
With a historic year ahead—including becoming the first Latina to headline Coachella—Karol G is navigating more than just music. She’s stepping into her role as a global voice, carefully choosing when and how to speak, but making one thing clear:
When the moment comes, she’s ready.
