There’s a Latin connection to one of the most anticipated films of the year—and people are just starting to notice.
Jaafar Jackson, who will portray Michael Jackson in the upcoming biopic Michael, is half Colombian.

Jaafar, 29, is the son of Jermaine Jackson and Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza, who is originally from Bogotá. That makes him Colombian-American—something many fans didn’t realize until a past interview clip recently resurfaced.
“I’m half Colombian… a lot of people don’t know,” Jaafar says in the now-viral video.
And once people found out, the reaction was immediate.
Colombian fans flooded social media with pride, celebrating the connection and even linking his dance ability back to his roots. Comments ranged from playful to passionate, with many pointing out that carrying that cultural background makes his portrayal of the King of Pop feel even more special.
But this isn’t new for Jaafar.
He’s openly embraced his heritage in his own music, incorporating Latin influences into his sound since launching his career in 2019. Now, he brings that identity into a role that carries global weight.
The film also features Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, adding even more depth to the cast.
For Latin audiences, though, this moment hits differently.
Because beyond the performance, it’s representation on one of the biggest stages in entertainment.
And this time, a piece of Colombia is part of the story.
