Every year on November 19, the world marks International Men’s Day (IMD) — a day dedicated to recognizing the positive contributions men and boys make to families, communities, and society. Beyond celebration, the day encourages open conversations about men’s health, equality, emotional well-being, and the social challenges many men experience.

Theme for 2025: “Celebrating Men”

The global theme focuses on uplifting male role models and acknowledging their contributions.
International Men’s Day is an opportunity for people everywhere of goodwill to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society for the greater good of all.

How International Men’s Day Started

IMD was founded in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh. He chose November 19 to honor his father’s birthday and to commemorate a historic football victory that united the nation.
Since then, IMD has expanded to over 80 countries, evolving into a global platform for celebrating male role models and encouraging healthier, more inclusive masculinity.

Why International Men’s Day Matters

IMD is built around six key pillars:

  • Celebrating positive male role models

  • Highlighting men’s contributions to family, community, and the environment

  • Improving men’s physical, mental, and emotional health

  • Raising awareness of inequalities affecting men and boys

  • Strengthening gender relations and promoting equality

  • Creating a safer, kinder world where men and boys can thrive

The day shines a light on issues that often fly under the radar: male mental health, suicide rates, stress, emotional vulnerability, fatherhood, and social expectations surrounding masculinity.

How IMD Is Celebrated

Across the world, IMD features:

  • School and workplace programs

  • Mental health workshops

  • Community events and recognition ceremonies

  • Social campaigns promoting positive masculinity

  • Online discussions about equal opportunities and well-being

NGOs, educators, and advocacy groups use the day to uplift stories of male resilience and encourage healthier conversations around gender.

A Chance to Celebrate and Reflect

International Men’s Day 2025 invites everyone to acknowledge the men and boys who enrich our lives — while also confronting the challenges they face. The day encourages balanced dialogue, emotional support, and a culture that values empathy, respect, and mental well-being for all.
