Guatemala’s penitentiary system has requested an investigation into over 100 prison guards on charges such as abuse of power, after a prison clean-out revealed hidden cash and pets. The investigation targets 102 guards from “El Infiernito” prison, located 50 miles south of the capital, which housed suspected Barrio 18 gang members. The guards face potential charges of abuse of power, breach of duty, disobedience, failure to disclose, and usurping power.
