After years of delays, Toronto’s long-awaited Finch West LRT is officially opening next month.
Metrolinx has confirmed that TTC Line 6 (Finch West) will begin service on December 7, 2025, bringing light rail transit to northwest Toronto for the first time. The news comes after the completion of a 30-day revenue service test and the TTC officially taking over full operations earlier this month.
For many Toronto riders, this marks the end of one of the city’s most frustrating transit sagas.
Originally planned to break ground in 2016 and open in 2021, the project didn’t begin construction until 2018. Since then, the timeline has been pushed back multiple times — first to 2023, and now finally locking in a real launch date for late 2025.
What This Means for Toronto Riders
The new line features:
-
18 stops
-
10.3 kilometres of track
-
Service running along Finch Avenue West from Keele Street to Highway 27
-
A direct connection to Humber College North Campus
For residents in North York, Rexdale, and northwest Toronto, this means faster commutes, better TTC connectivity, and reduced crowding on buses along Finch.
A Big Win for Toronto Transit
With full TTC control now in place and the system cleared through final testing, the city is officially on track to launch Line 6 in early December — a major milestone for Toronto’s transit future.
After years of waiting, frustration, and construction headaches, Finch West is finally getting its train.
