Dreamers blast Nicky Jam for endorsing Trump

Nicky Jam, the reggaeton star, has faced backlash after endorsing former President Donald Trump, particularly from Dreamers, including those he once supported in a 2018 video advocating for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). Many Dreamers, like Adrian Escárate, expressed disappointment, accusing Jam of betraying the community. Trump’s administration had attempted to rescind DACA, leaving many young immigrants in fear of losing their protections, though the Supreme Court blocked the move.

At a recent rally, Trump mistakenly introduced Jam as a woman before the singer appeared on stage wearing a MAGA hat, praising Trump and advocating for his return to office. Jam’s support of Trump contrasts sharply with his past statements criticizing Trump’s stance on immigration, leading to accusations of hypocrisy from fans and advocates. In response, the band Maná removed their collaboration with Jam from streaming platforms, denouncing him for aligning with Trump, whom they label as racist.

The incident highlights ongoing tensions over DACA, as the program remains uncertain amidst ongoing legal battles. While current DACA recipients can renew their statuses, new applications remain blocked, affecting thousands of young immigrants.
