Last month, when the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Seattle Mariners to advance to the World Series — remember that rush? — Jays fans showed true sportsmanship. Instead of gloating, they came together to donate to the Seattle Children’s Hospital, proving that kindness hits harder than any home run.
Now, in a beautiful full-circle moment, Los Angeles Dodgers fans are returning the favor. Inspired by Toronto’s generosity, they’ve started donating to Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) — one of Canada’s leading pediatric hospitals, caring for over 130,000 young patients every year.
According to the Toronto Star, donations from Dodgers fans have already reached $30,000 as of this week.
The gesture has sparked some touching exchanges online, too. Blue Jays relievers were seen wearing caps with the number 51 — a tribute to Dodgers pitcher Alex Vesia, who missed the World Series due to a family matter. That show of solidarity struck a chord.
“After being so moved by such a classy gesture,” one Dodgers fan wrote on Reddit, “I’ll be rooting for the Blue Jays whenever they’re not playing the Dodgers.”
Looks like the rivalry has officially turned into a friendship — and one that’s helping kids across two countries.
