Día de los Muertos Takes Over STACKT Market in Toronto for a Massive Mexican Cultural Celebration

Toronto is getting ready for a colourful celebration of Mexican culture as Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) takes over STACKT Market on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

From live mariachi music and Mexican wrestling to traditional food, Latin DJs and cultural activities, the free festival promises to bring a little piece of Mexico to downtown Toronto.

And with organizers anticipating more than 8,500 attendees, it could be one of the city’s biggest Día de los Muertos celebrations this year.

A Celebration of Life, Culture and Tradition

Despite its name, Día de los Muertos isn’t about mourning death. It’s about celebrating life and remembering the people who are no longer with us.

The Mexican tradition, recognized by UNESCO as part of humanity’s Intangible Cultural Heritage, brings families and communities together through music, food, flowers, colourful decorations and beautifully decorated altars known as ofrendas.

It’s a celebration filled with meaning, and Toronto’s growing Latin American community continues to find new ways to share these traditions with the rest of the city.

Mariachi, Lucha Libre and Latin Music

This year’s celebration at STACKT Market will feature a full day of entertainment, including some unmistakably Mexican favourites.

One of the highlights will be live Lucha Libre wrestling at 3 PM, bringing the excitement and theatrical energy of Mexico’s famous wrestling tradition to Toronto.

Music will also play a major role throughout the day.

Mariachi Fuego is scheduled to perform at 4 PM, followed by live Latin music from Latintrain at 5 PM.

DJs Xavier and Jesse will keep the music going, creating a festival atmosphere throughout the venue.

Visitors can also expect Mexican food vendors, local artisans, face painting and cultural activities for the entire family.

Honouring Loved Ones Through a Traditional Ofrenda

At the heart of Día de los Muertos is the tradition of remembering those who have passed away.

The festival will feature a community ofrenda, a traditional altar where loved ones are honoured through photographs, candles, flowers and meaningful offerings.

It’s an opportunity for visitors unfamiliar with the holiday to discover its deeper cultural significance.

For many Mexicans and Latin Americans living in Toronto, celebrations like this are also a way to stay connected to their roots while introducing their traditions to the next generation.

Toronto’s Latin Culture Continues to Grow

Events like Día de los Muertos at STACKT Market reflect something we’ve been seeing across Toronto for years: Latin American culture is becoming an increasingly important part of the city’s identity.

From reggaeton concerts and salsa festivals to Latin food markets and cultural celebrations, the community’s influence continues to grow.

And what’s especially exciting is that these events are attracting audiences well beyond the Latin American community.

People from different backgrounds are discovering the music, traditions, flavours and energy that make Latin culture so special.

Día de los Muertos is another example of how cultural celebrations can bring an entire city together.
