A moment meant for celebration has turned into tragedy ahead of one of the biggest concerts of the year.
Shakira is set to perform this weekend at Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Copacabana Beach as part of the Todo Mundo no Rioconcert series—but preparations were shaken by a fatal accident involving a member of the production crew.
A construction worker tragically lost his life on April 26 after an incident during the assembly of the stage structures. According to local reports, the worker suffered severe injuries after becoming trapped in equipment on site. He was transported to a hospital, where he later passed away.
Organizers of the event confirmed the news, expressing their condolences and support for the victim’s family, as well as the team involved in the production.
Shakira also shared a heartfelt message following the incident.
“I am deeply saddened… my heart goes out to his family and loved ones,” she said, acknowledging the loss and the people behind the scenes who help bring a show of this scale to life.
The upcoming performance is part of the Todo Mundo no Rio series, a massive free concert held annually in Rio de Janeiro, which has previously hosted global stars like Madonna and Lady Gaga.
For Shakira, whose Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour has been one of the biggest global tours of the year, the moment is a reminder that behind every stage and spotlight, there are hundreds of workers making it all possible.
As the show approaches, the focus now shifts not only to the performance—but to honoring the life lost in bringing it to the stage.
