Sometimes a coffee break changes everything. For 20-year-old Brenda Aubin-Vega of Montreal, a quick stop at Dépanneur Jen & Dan on Rue Poirier turned into a lifelong payday.

On her break from work, Aubin-Vega scratched her $4 Gagnant à Vie ticket, revealed three piggy banks, and instantly became a lifetime winner—$1,000 every week for the rest of her life.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes! I checked my ticket over and over again,” she told Loto-Québec. After calling her dad to share the news, she wisely took the rest of the day off to let it sink in.

Winners of the game can either choose a $1 million lump sum or the weekly annuity. While most opt for the upfront payout, Aubin-Vega decided on the steady income, saying she plans to save toward buying a home. At $1,000 a week, the payout reaches $1 million after about 19 years—and if invested wisely, could grow into much more.

The convenience store that sold her the lucky ticket will also cash in: they’ll receive a $10,000 commission from Loto-Québec.

With odds of 1 in 1.5 million, the Gagnant à Vie scratcher truly lives up to its name. And in 2025 alone, ten lifetime prizes have already been claimed across Quebec.

For Aubin-Vega, that means her future just got a lot brighter—one week at a time.
