The Toronto Blue Jays are going all-in to punch their ticket to the ALCS, and they’re bringing their hottest weapon back to the mound — rookie sensation Trey Yesavage.
After delivering one of the most electric postseason debuts in franchise history — 11 strikeouts and 5 1/3 no-hit inningsin Game 2 — Yesavage could come out of the bullpen for Game 4 tonight at Yankee Stadium (7 p.m. ET, FS1).
Manager John Schneider hinted that both Kevin Gausman and Yesavage are on standby, but all signs point to the 22-year-old fireballer as the go-to arm if things get tight. It’s a bold move in a bullpen game that could send Toronto back to the ALCS for the first time in nearly a decade.
Yesavage, who declared before the series that he was “built for this,” backed up every word with pure dominance. His splitter left Yankee bats spinning — 11 whiffs on 16 swings — and he set a new Blue Jays postseason strikeout recordin the process.
Now, on short rest, he could be called on again to shut down New York under the bright Bronx lights.
The Jays are treating Game 4 as a must-win, and if Yesavage takes the mound, expect fireworks. The rookie has the stuff, the swagger, and the spotlight — and Toronto’s October dreams may just ride on his right arm.
