Argentina star Enzo Fernández has officially entered football’s record books.

The 25-year-old midfielder has become the first player in football history to be transferred for more than £100 million on two separate occasions following his blockbuster move from Chelsea to Manchester City.

Manchester City completed the signing of Fernández on transfer deadline day for £125 million, approximately $169 million USD, equalling the British transfer record.

It marks another massive transfer for the Argentine World Cup winner, who originally joined Chelsea from Benfica in January 2023 for £106.8 million. At the time, that deal itself set a British transfer record.

Now, just over three years later, Fernández has crossed the £100-million mark again.

No other footballer has ever been sold for more than £100 million twice.

His latest move also reunites him with Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca, who previously coached Fernández at Chelsea. Maresca reportedly viewed the Argentine as a major target as City rebuilt its midfield following several high-profile departures.

Fernández arrives in Manchester with an already impressive résumé. He helped Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup, was named the tournament’s Best Young Player and later won the UEFA Conference League and FIFA Club World Cup with Chelsea.

His new £125-million price tag also matches the British record established by Alexander Isak’s move from Newcastle United to Liverpool in 2025.

From River Plate to Benfica, Chelsea and now Manchester City, Fernández’s rise has been remarkable.
