Mexico has officially taken the Leagues Cup crown.
Toluca defeated Monterrey 2-0 Sunday night in Houston to win the 2026 Leagues Cup, becoming the first Liga MX club to capture the tournament under its modern format.
The Diablos Rojos wasted little time.
Captain Alexis Vega opened the scoring just four minutes into the final, reacting quickest to a rebound inside the box and putting Toluca ahead.
Monterrey pushed hard for an equalizer and created several opportunities, but Toluca’s defence held strong.
Then came the knockout punch.
In the 70th minute, Federico Viñas helped create a counterattack that ended with Brazilian winger Helinho putting away the rebound for a 2-0 lead.
From there, Toluca never looked back.
The championship capped off an incredible tournament for Mexican soccer.
For the first time in the modern Leagues Cup era, all four semifinalists were Liga MX clubs — Toluca, Monterrey, León and Club América — guaranteeing that the trophy would return to Mexico.
Toluca ultimately finished the job.
It also continues an incredible run under manager Antonio “Turco” Mohamed. The Leagues Cup is Toluca’s sixth trophy during his time with the club, adding another championship to one of the hottest stretches in Mexican soccer.
And captain Alexis Vega delivered when it mattered most, scoring in the final and being named the tournament’s Best Player.
After years of MLS clubs and Liga MX teams battling for bragging rights, 2026 belonged completely to Mexico.
