Brazilian winger Savinho is officially a Tottenham Hotspur player, completing one of the biggest transfers of the summer.

Tottenham signed the 22-year-old from Manchester City in a deal worth up to £85 million — approximately US$115 million — as Spurs continue an extraordinary summer spending spree.

The deal is also historic for Manchester City. At its maximum value, Savinho becomes the most expensive player sale in the club’s history. Reports put the agreement at £75 million guaranteed with another £10 million potentially arriving through add-ons.

A New Beginning for the Brazilian

Savinho arrived at Manchester City in 2024 after impressing during a breakout season with Girona in Spain.

Expectations were enormous, but his time in Manchester never quite produced the offensive numbers many anticipated. He scored only two goals in 53 Premier League appearances, despite regularly demonstrating the speed and one-on-one ability that made him one of Brazil’s most exciting young wingers.

Now Tottenham is betting more than $100 million that the best is still to come.

There’s even a symbolic change accompanying the move.

The Brazilian has decided to use Sávio, his original footballing name, rather than Savinho as he begins the next chapter of his career in London. Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi says he hopes the move can provide the winger with the fresh start he needs.

Tottenham Is Spending Huge

Savinho’s arrival is part of one of the most aggressive transfer windows in Tottenham’s history.

The club’s summer spending has now surpassed US$400 million, with Spurs making several major additions as they attempt to rebuild their squad and compete at the top of English football.

That makes the pressure on Savinho considerable.

A transfer approaching $115 million comes with expectations, but Tottenham is investing in a player who is still only 22 and already has experience in the Premier League, Champions League and with the Brazilian national team.

For Brazil, the move will also be worth watching with the 2026 World Cup approaching. Regular playing time and a major role at Tottenham could give Sávio an opportunity to establish himself as an increasingly important part of Brazil’s attack.

Manchester City may have made a record sale, but Tottenham is betting that one of Brazil’s most talented young players is only beginning to show what he can become.
