For years, Toronto has seen Latin American communities come together in powerful ways to celebrate their culture, music and independence.
The Colombian community has built incredible annual Independence Day celebrations that unite thousands of people in a sea of yellow, blue and red. They’ve created a tradition that people look forward to every summer.
Now, it’s Ecuador’s turn.
On August 8, Toronto Latinos and Mechoning will host the Ecuador Independence Day Boat Cruise, bringing Ecuadorians from across the GTA together for an unforgettable evening of music, dancing, culture and national pride on the water.

The event comes on the heels of the incredible success of Toronto’s recent Ecuador World Cup watch parties, where hundreds of fans came together to cheer on La Tri. The atmosphere proved something many of us have always believed: the Ecuadorian community is passionate, united and ready to celebrate together.
The Greater Toronto Area is home to one of Canada’s largest Latin American communities, with more than 160,000 people identifying as Latin American in census-based data. Ecuadorians have become an important part of that story, building businesses, raising families, contributing to their communities and proudly sharing their culture throughout the region.
Yet despite our growing presence, we’ve never had a signature Independence Day celebration that truly belongs to us.
That’s what this is about.
The Ecuador Independence Day Boat Cruise isn’t just another party. It’s the first step toward building a tradition that Ecuadorians across the GTA can proudly call their own—an annual celebration that brings together people from Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Esmeraldas, Manabí, Loja and every corner of our beautiful country.
It’s about celebrating our music, our food, our culture, our flag and the pride that comes with being Ecuadorian, while creating memories that future generations will look forward to every August.
If the World Cup watch parties showed us anything, it’s that when Ecuadorians have a reason to come together, we show up.
This August 8, we’re inviting the community to do it again.
Not just for one night.
But to help start a tradition that can grow year after year and become one of Toronto’s signature celebrations of Ecuadorian culture.
🇪🇨 This is more than a boat cruise. This is the beginning of a movement. This is Ecuador’s time.
