The highly anticipated Finalissima 2026 between Spain national football team and Argentina national football team has officially been cancelled, according to UEFA.
The match, scheduled for March 27 in Doha, Qatar, was meant to bring together the winners of UEFA Euro 2024 and the Copa América 2024. However, growing regional tensions following recent U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran led organizers to determine that Qatar was no longer a suitable host location.
Officials from UEFA and CONMEBOL explored several alternatives, including staging the match at Madrid’s Bernabéu Stadium or playing a two-leg format between Spain and Argentina. However, no agreement was reached with the Argentine Football Association on the proposed solutions.
The cancellation means fans will miss a potential first-ever showdown between Argentine legend Lionel Messi and Spain’s rising star Lamine Yamal.
