Fans packed into BC Place hoping to witness the MLS debut of Colombian star James Rodríguez — but the night belonged to the Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

By the time Rodríguez entered the match in the 64th minute for Minnesota United FC, Vancouver had already built a commanding 5–0 lead. The Whitecaps eventually cruised to a 6–0 victory, falling just one goal short of the club’s largest MLS win.

The crowd of 23,885 buzzed when Rodríguez began warming up, with many fans wearing Colombia’s yellow jersey. While he received cheers from supporters eager to see the superstar, Whitecaps fans greeted his arrival with boos as he stepped onto the pitch.

The match also featured a rare moment in league history, as Rodríguez shared the field with fellow World Cup standout Thomas Müller — marking the first MLS game to feature two FIFA World Cup Golden Boot winners.

Goals from Sebastian Berhalter, Brian White (two), Mathías Laborda, Emmanuel Sabbi, and Cheikh Sabaly powered Vancouver to a perfect 4–0 start to the MLS season, tying them for the league lead.

Toronto FC v Inter Miami CF – May 9, 2026

May 9 isn’t just a game — it’s a city moment, and we’re working directly with MLSE to bring the Toronto Latinos community together for Toronto FC vs Inter Miami at BMO Field — a chance to watch Messi and other World Cup-bound stars live, right here in our backyard weeks before the FIFA World Cup.

But we’re not just pulling up for 90 minutes. We’re starting with a pre-party at the stadium hours before the match, and finishing the night with an afterparty steps from the field. No moving your car. No breaking the vibe. Just one full-day experience. If you’re coming, come with us.
