Canadian Alphonso Davies Injury Raises Questions Ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup

Alphonso Davies left the field injured during Bayern Munich’s Champions League match against Atalanta BC in Bergamo, raising concerns about the Canadian star’s fitness ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 25-year-old defender appeared to suffer a non-contact injury in the 70th minute with Bayern leading 6–0. Davies immediately showed signs of distress, dropping to the field and covering his face with his shirt before being helped off by medical staff.

Bayern manager Vincent Kompany later said the Canadian international is being evaluated for a muscular injury, though the full extent has not yet been confirmed.

The injury comes after a difficult stretch for Davies, who recently returned from a torn muscle fibre in his right hamstring and previously missed several months with a serious knee injury.

Davies remains a key figure for Canada’s national team, recording 15 goals and 17 assists in 58 appearances. Canada is set to co-host the World Cup this summer and will open the tournament June 12 at BMO Field in Toronto.

Toronto FC v Inter Miami CF – May 9, 2026

May 9 isn’t just a game — it’s a city moment, and we’re working directly with MLSE to bring the Toronto Latinos community together for Toronto FC vs Inter Miami at BMO Field — a chance to watch Messi and other World Cup-bound stars live, right here in our backyard weeks before the FIFA World Cup.

But we’re not just pulling up for 90 minutes. We’re starting with a pre-party at the stadium hours before the match, and finishing the night with an afterparty steps from the field. No moving your car. No breaking the vibe. Just one full-day experience. If you’re coming, come with us.
