Do or Die in Toronto: Blue Jays Face Elimination in Game 6 Against Mariners

The Toronto Blue Jays return to Rogers Centre tonight for what could be their final game of the season — a must-win Game 6 against the Seattle Mariners, who lead the ALCS 3-2.

It all comes down to this: first pitch at 8:03 p.m. ET, with rookie sensation Trey Yesavage taking the mound for Toronto and Logan Gilbert starting for Seattle. If the Jays pull off a win, they’ll force a Game 7 on Monday night — right here at home.

But make no mistake: the pressure is sky-high. The Blue Jays’ season now hangs by a thread after a devastating 6-2 loss in Game 5, when Cal Raleigh’s game-tying homer and Eugenio Suárez’s grand slam flipped the script late.

And the tension hasn’t just been on the field. The series has been fueled by emotion and controversy — none bigger than George Springer’s hit-by-pitch in Game 5, which ignited tempers and left his status uncertain for tonight’s elimination game.

Now, all eyes are on Yesavage — the 22-year-old rookie with just over a month of MLB experience — as he tries to save Toronto’s season. The young right-hander’s confidence hasn’t wavered: “I’m built for this,” he said recently.

Off the field, fans are getting a little help too. Metrolinx deferred weekend track work on the Lakeshore West line, reopening service by 11 a.m. Sunday to make sure Jays Nation can pack the Rogers Centre.

With momentum swinging wildly between these two clubs all series long, Game 6 promises fireworks. Will the Jays rise to the moment, or will the Mariners punch their ticket to the World Series?

Either way — Toronto’s got one more fight left.
