Argentina have officially secured their place in the 2026 World Cup with a dominant 4-1 victory over Brazil in Buenos Aires. Goals from Julián Álvarez, Enzo Fernández, Alexis Mac Allister, and Giuliano Simeone sealed a resounding win, marking a celebration-worthy night at the Estadio Monumental.

Brazil, struggling under coach Dorival Júnior, now face uncertainty in their qualification campaign. Captain Marquinhos apologized to fans, calling the performance “embarrassing.”

Elsewhere in South American qualifiers:

  • Ecuador held Chile to a 0-0 draw, remaining second in the standings.

  • Uruguay’s 0-0 draw with Bolivia moved them into third place.

  • Colombia let a 2-0 lead slip in a 2-2 draw against Paraguay.

  • Venezuela kept their World Cup dream alive with a 1-0 win over Peru, thanks to a Salomón Rondón penalty.

Argentina sit comfortably at the top of the table with 31 points, securing one of six automatic spots for South America in the 2026 tournament.
