A huge amount of cocaine was found on a farm in Minces, Los Ríos Province last Sunday. The National Police, along with the military, seized 22 tons of packaged cocaine, valued at $1.3 billion or more. This bust is expected to seriously disrupt drug trafficking in Ecuador. The police initially thought they had confiscated three tons but later discovered hidden tunnels leading to more cocaine. The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime believes this might be the largest drug seizure in history. The raid, following a six-month investigation, also uncovered firearms, ammunition, and explosives. The farm was mostly empty, and a 30-year-old employee was arrested. The owner, identified as owning other properties, is being sought. The cocaine was neatly packaged with different logos, and investigations are ongoing to determine their meaning. Experts suggest that such a massive seizure will impact the drug market, leading to potential violence among traffickers.
