The NFL’s 2025 season opener in São Paulo, Brazil, was historic for more than just the Chiefs vs. Chargers matchup. It marked YouTube’s first exclusive NFL broadcast—and the numbers were staggering.

According to Nielsen and YouTube data, the stream drew a global AMA of 17.3 million viewers, including 16.2 million in the U.S. and 1.1 million abroad. The game also set a new YouTube record for concurrent live viewers, proving the platform can handle global-scale sports while reaching fans in more than 230 countries.

But the highlight wasn’t only the record-breaking audience—it was the halftime show headlined by Colombian superstar Karol G. Already one of the biggest names in Latin music, Karol G brought her signature energy to the global stage, making history as one of the first Latinas to perform at an NFL season opener halftime show. Her set became an instant trending moment across social media, reinforcing her status as an international powerhouse.

For the NFL, this was a bold step in expanding its global footprint. For YouTube, it was validation of its $2B-per-year investment in Sunday Ticket and live sports rights. And for Karol G, it was yet another statement: Latin music isn’t just riding the wave—it’s driving culture worldwide.
