Another familiar shopping centre in the Greater Toronto Area is set to disappear, as developers continue reshaping the suburban skyline. A new application to the City of Vaughan proposes the demolition of Woodbridge Square, a strip mall at Weston Road and Highway 7, to make way for a massive mixed-use development.
The plan, led by property owner Morguard Corporation and designed by Turner Fleischer Architects, envisions nine towers ranging from 12 to 57 storeys — adding nearly 4,400 condominium units to the city. The tallest tower would stand just under 185 metres, making it a striking new landmark.
At the heart of the project would be a 3,700-square-metre privately owned public space functioning as a central park. Retail space will be integrated into the bases of residential towers, though it’s unclear whether current tenants like Nations Fresh Foods or Crumbl Cookies will remain.
Construction will roll out in phases, starting with the north and east sections of the site, leaving some existing businesses operating in the short term. The location offers strong transit access, sitting less than two kilometres from Vaughan Metropolitan Centre subway station with a dedicated busway, plus quick Highway 400 access.
Plans include a three-level underground garage with nearly 2,900 vehicle spaces and over 4,400 bicycle spots — signaling a push toward both car and cycling convenience in one of Toronto’s fastest-changing suburban hubs.
