As Toronto slows down for the holidays, it’s good to know what’s actually open — and what’s not — between Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s.
🛒 Grocery & Liquor Stores
Christmas Day: Most grocery stores are closed. Exceptions include Rabba Fine Foods (open 24/7) and Summerhill Market (9 a.m.–1 p.m.).
Boxing Day: Most grocery stores and pharmacies are open.
New Year’s Day: Many grocery stores close again.
LCBO & Beer Store: Closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day; reduced hours on Boxing Day. LCBO is open Dec. 31, some locations with extended hours.
🏛 Government & Mail Services
Closed: Canada Post, FedEx, Purolator, UPS, Service Canada, and ServiceOntario on all three holidays.
🛍 Malls & Movies
Christmas Day: Most malls are closed, except Pacific Mall, which is open.
Boxing Day: Malls and stores are open — it’s one of the biggest shopping days of the year.
Movie theatres: Many are open, but showtimes vary.
🎡 Things to Do
Open: CN Tower, Casa Loma, Ripley’s Aquarium, Toronto Zoo, High Park Zoo.
Closed Christmas Day: Distillery District Winter Village and WinterFest at Canada’s Wonderland (both reopen Boxing Day).
Libraries: Open until 1 p.m. on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve; closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day.
Outdoor skating rinks: Many remain open — check the City of Toronto website for schedules.
🚇 Transit (TTC & GO)
TTC: Runs on Sunday schedules for Christmas Day and New Year’s Day; holiday service on Boxing Day.
Subways: Start around 8 a.m. on holidays.
GO Transit: Running Saturday schedules on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day. Some routes don’t offer weekend service — check ahead.
Whether you’re planning last-minute shopping, skating, or just getting around the city, a little planning goes a long way during the holidays. 🎄🚇
