Toronto’s postseason dream run keeps rolling — and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is leading the charge.
On a roaring Sunday afternoon at Rogers Centre, Guerrero Jr. crushed a 415-foot grand slam into the second deck, sealing a 13–7 Blue Jays win over the New York Yankees in Game 2 of the ALDS. The blast — the first postseason grand slam in franchise history — sent the sold-out crowd of 44,764 into a frenzy and had Vladdy raising his arms to chants of “Vladdy! Vladdy! Vladdy!” during a well-deserved curtain call.
“It was something I dreamed of since I was a kid,” Guerrero Jr. said after the game. “It happened to my dad — tonight was my turn.”
The Jays’ rookie pitcher Trey Yesavage also delivered under pressure, striking out 11 batters in just over five innings in his postseason debut.
Inside the clubhouse, teammates jumped and cheered as Guerrero’s ball soared out of the park. “We were going crazy,” said starter Kevin Gausman. Manager John Schneider called it a “huge swing” and praised Guerrero’s focus and confidence at the plate.
After a rough end to the regular season, Guerrero Jr. has found his rhythm at the perfect time — hitting homers in back-to-back games and collecting six hits and six RBIs so far in the series.
Now up 2–0, the Blue Jays head to New York needing just one more win to advance. Guerrero Jr. isn’t celebrating just yet:
“The job’s not done. We’ve got to stay focused and finish it.”
Game 3 is set for Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, with Shane Bieber taking the mound for Toronto against Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodón.
