Vlad Guerrero Jr. opens up about contract talks withe Blue Jays

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has revealed that his final contract demand to the Toronto Blue Jays was significantly lower than Juan Soto’s 15-year, $765 million deal with the Mets—more than $100 million less but still close to a 15-year term. The Blue Jays did not disclose their highest offer, only stating it would have been the franchise’s largest-ever contract.

Despite his desire to stay in Toronto long-term, negotiations broke down before his self-imposed deadline at the start of spring training. Guerrero, who will make $28.5 million in 2025 after avoiding arbitration, now appears set to test free agency next offseason.

Coming off a strong 2024 season, Guerrero is betting on himself to secure a massive deal in free agency. His performance in 2025 will be closely watched, especially as he helps the Jays rebound from a last-place finish, with newly acquired Anthony Santander providing lineup support.
