Unstoppable: The Venezuelan Runner Who Conquered the New York Marathon on Prosthetic Legs

Six years ago, Juan Pablo Dos Santos’ life took a dramatic turn. At just 20 years old, the Venezuelan athlete lost both legs in a traffic accident — a tragedy that could have ended his dreams. But instead, it became the start of a powerful new journey.

Once a footballer, Juan Pablo refused to let his story end there. Under his personal motto “Unstoppable,” he transformed pain into purpose, becoming a motivational speaker and advocate for people with disabilities. He also discovered a new passion: running.

This year, he completed the Caracas Half Marathon in 5:19:41 and the Madrid Half Marathon in 5:51:02, running not with his legs, but — as he says — “with my heart.”

His greatest triumph came in New York, where he crossed the finish line of the New York Marathon after more than 15 hours of running (15:21:23). As the last runner to finish, Juan Pablo received roaring cheers from the crowd — a symbol of what it means to never give up.

That same race made history with 59,226 finishers, breaking the record for the most athletes ever to complete a marathon. But for many, the most unforgettable moment wasn’t about numbers — it was watching a Venezuelan runner with prosthetic legs redefine what victory truly looks like. 🏁🇻🇪
