Toronto’s Santa Claus Parade Returns for Its 121st Year Despite Funding Challenges

Toronto’s beloved Santa Claus Parade will return on November 23 for its 121st edition, even as organizers face ongoing financial challenges.

The parade, which winds through downtown Toronto from Christie Pits Park to St. Lawrence Market, was at risk earlier this year due to rising costs and fewer corporate sponsors. Chair David McCarthy said the team has raised enough funds to move forward but added they’re “not out of the woods yet.”

With a budget of over $2 million, about 20% comes from government support, while the rest depends on sponsors and public donations.

This year’s parade will feature 27 floats, marching bands, and the return of Santa and Mrs. Claus, plus fundraising efforts like the Holly Jolly Fun Run and a 50/50 raffle.

Parade president Clay Charters summed it up: “Toronto feels like a small town for one day.”

Those unable to attend can catch the parade on CityTV and 98.1 CHFI.
