Toronto has taken the top spot in a new global ranking of destinations attracting solo travellers, beating out cities across Europe, Asia and Latin America.

The ranking comes from GuruWalk, a global platform connecting travellers with local guides for free walking tours. The company analyzed booking data from 150 of its most-booked cities worldwide between June 2025 and June 2026.

Toronto came out on top, with 50.5% of all GuruWalk bookings in the city made by solo travellers — the highest percentage recorded anywhere in the study.

Toronto narrowly edged out Santa Ana, El Salvador, where 50% of bookings were made by solo travellers, while São Paulo, Brazil, and Taipei followed at 49.5%.

For anyone who knows Toronto, the appeal isn’t difficult to understand.

The city’s multicultural neighbourhoods allow visitors to experience completely different cultures within a relatively short distance. A solo traveller can wander through Kensington Market and Chinatown, explore the historic Distillery District, spend an afternoon along the waterfront or discover restaurants representing virtually every corner of the world.

Toronto’s diversity was specifically highlighted as one of the qualities that makes the city attractive to people travelling independently.

Free walking tours are also particularly popular with solo travellers because they provide an easy way to discover a city while meeting other visitors along the way.

While the ranking specifically measures solo bookings made through GuruWalk rather than overall tourism numbers, Toronto finishing first among 150 major destinations is still an impressive recognition.

For a city that prides itself on welcoming people from around the world, Toronto is proving you don’t necessarily need a travel partner to experience everything it has to offer.
