The countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially on — and Toronto is calling for volunteers to help make history.

The city will host six matches, including Canada’s men’s national team home opener on June 12, 2026 — the first men’s World Cup match ever played on Canadian soil — plus a round of 32 match on July 2 at BMO Field.

To pull it off, Toronto needs more than 3,000 volunteers to support fan experiences, accessibility services, media operations, and behind-the-scenes logistics. “Volunteers are the heartbeat of this tournament,” said Peter Montopoli, Canada’s chief tournament officer. “They’re the first touchpoint for fans and the ones who bring the passion for football to life.”

Mayor Olivia Chow called it a once-in-a-lifetime chance to meet new people, showcase Toronto’s diversity, and welcome the world. Anyone 18 or older can apply — newcomers, retirees, and multilingual speakers are especially encouraged. There’s no deadline yet, but spots are expected to fill up fast.

Virtual info sessions run on August 11, 14, 18, and 21. To learn more or sign up, visit toronto.ca/FIFAVolunteer.

The 2026 tournament kicks off June 11 in Mexico City and wraps July 19 in New York/New Jersey — with Toronto ready to play its part in the world’s biggest sporting event.
