Starting this weekend, Toronto is getting a new area code—942—joining the existing 416, 647, and 437. This won’t affect current phone numbers, but new ones might get the new code. The change was approved two years ago to prep for the growing demand, since existing codes are expected to run out by April 2026. Toronto hasn’t had a new area code since 437 was added in 2013. The need for new codes is tracked annually by the Canadian Numbering Association.
