Toronto based Latin Coffee Party, ‘Café con Leche’ is going viral

Forget brunch — the hottest daytime movement on the Latin scene in Toronto might just be coffee-fueled perreo. Enter Café con Leche, a growing series of Latin dance parties powered by caffeine instead of cocktails, blending urban Latin beats with a unique daytime energy that’s making waves across the city. Don’t get us wrong, alcoholic beverages are available at an additional cost, but the core is coffee and community.

Founded by Carlos Brito, Café con Leche began as an intimate coffee-only dance gathering with 100 people. With the help of Toronto Latinos and other Latin nightlife industry vets, the movement has grown into something a lot bigger with a Café con Leche boat cruise scheduled for July 13 and a massive outdoor version scheduled for later in the summer!

From Small Cafés to Boats to Festivals

Café con Leche recently made a splash during Episode 2 when Pumba Dos Santos from Cali, Colombia dropped in and sang a couple of songs while he was in town touring with Mike Bahia. The movement is now hitting the Toronto Harbour and then they’re headed outdoors for their biggest party yet!

The vibe? All Latin hits, all day — with a jolt of espresso to keep the energy high. What began as a low-key gathering in cozy venues has now evolved into large-scale events attracting hundreds. The goal is for these Café con Leche parties to take over large scale venues, featuring DJ sets, dance floors, and even alcohol — a shift that has sparked conversation among attendees.

A Split in the Scene?

With growth comes attention — and opinions. On TikTok and other social platforms, some attendees are expressing that Café con Leche should be coffee-only. As the party expands and begins offering alcohol options, the community is seeing a subtle cultural divide.

“Some of us came for that sober energy and morning vibes,” one TikTok user commented. “Now it feels like just another club party.”

Still, many others welcome the evolution. “It’s about choice,” another attendee posted. “Some come for the coffee, some come to dance, some come to party — all are valid.”

The Future of Café con Leche

Despite the differing views, Café con Leche’s popularity shows no signs of slowing down. With its blend of Latine community, high-energy music, and daytime accessibility, it’s redefining what a dance party can look like — and who it’s for. The foundation of Café con Leche remains the same… to create spaces for community!

Whether you’re looking to dance with a coffee or perreo with an espresso martini in hand, Café con Leche is staking its claim as Toronto’s most innovative party concept — and maybe even the next big cultural export in Latin nightlife.
