BARRIO (AS) – Uruguay beat Lionel Messi’s Argentina 2-0 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Buenos Aires on Thursday, with Ronald Araújo and Darwin Núñez on the score sheet. With the victory, Uruguay moved to within two points of the reigning world champions in the standings.

Inter Miami and Argentina captain Messi played the entire match, while Luis Suárez watched proceedings from the bench, but the Gremio striker didn’t let the opportunity pass him by and took to his online accounts to mention his friendship with Messi.

“Rivals, but friends too”, were the words posted by Suárez who became great friends with Messi during their glorious spell together with FC Barcelona

Suárez has been linked with a move to Inter Miami, where he would join Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba in a very ambitious project to dominate MLS.
